For as long as there has been humans, we have idolized wealth and fame above all else. Society has conditioned us to admire those who have built financial empires, dominated industries, or amassed millions of followers online. But in a world that is rapidly shifting, we need to reevaluate who we truly value. I believe deeply in companies and trade associations for community impact.
We are in an era where more people get their news and opinions from influencers than from experienced professionals or civic-minded leaders. Too many are blindly following the loudest voices without questioning the depth of their insights or the integrity of their motives. We have become sheep in a digital age that rewards noise over nuance.
Now more than ever, relationships with good people matter. The fabric of our communities, industries, and society depends on those who show up, contribute, and work for the greater good… not just those who accumulate wealth or social clout.
Businesses and Trade Associations for Community Impact
Take a moment and consider: Who are the most admired people in your community? In your industry? Are they the ones who made the most money or the ones who made the biggest difference? There is nothing wrong with financial success, but it should not be the sole measure of who we celebrate and champion.
A friend once told me I was “rich in people.” That is the best compliment I have ever received. I may not be leaving my children generational wealth, but I have built deep, meaningful relationships with people who matter. And that is worth more than any bank account balance.
As someone who teaches about the power of human interaction, I see the world moving in the wrong direction. We are more divided, lonelier, more depressed, and more disconnected than at any time in my nearly 60 years. And yet, we have more tools than ever to bridge those gaps… if we choose to use them intentionally.
We need trade associations, companies, and communities to step up and lead the charge for more H.I. (Human Interaction) in an AI-driven world. Technology will continue to evolve, but human connection must remain at the heart of everything we do. Companies and trade associations have the potential to shape industries and societies, but many are failing to take action. It is time for championing businesses and trade associations for community impact.
Now is when to prioritize people. Not just the wealthy, not just the famous… but the good, the thoughtful, the civic-minded. The ones who give, serve, and build. The ones who are truly rich in what matters most.
Who are those people in your world? Make a list. Start championing them. The future depends on it.
